In the cutthroat competition that is the streaming wars, platforms that produce a lot of original content have an advantage over their rivals. While channels are all vying for the hot new prestige drama, comedy, or slow-burn thriller series, some of the cheapest & easiest programs to produce are those in the genre of reality TV.
Netflix is the streaming platform with perhaps the most original reality series, a few of which have devoted audiences. From Selling Sunset to Love is Blind, Netflix reality shows have something to offer every kind of viewer. One standout reality program from Netflix is Bling Empire, which fans will be happy to learn just got renewed for season 2.
First airing in January 2021, Bling Empire follows the extravagant lives of well-to-do Asians & Asian Americans living in the greater Los Angeles area. The series tracks these elites as they attend fabulous soirees & stir up drama amongst themselves. Season 2 of Bling Empire promises, “even more luxury, glamour, and crazy.”
Crazy rich Asians
Netflix announced that season 2 of Bling Empire will hit screens on May 13th, consisting of eight forty-minute-long episodes. As many great television programs do, Bling Empire is bringing in some new talent for season 2. The newest cast members will be TV personality Dorothy Wang & Mimi Morris, according to Netflix.
In addition to the new stars, Bling Empire will be bringing back people you know & love from the first season. Christine Chiu, Kevin Kreider, Kelly Mi Li, Kim Lee, Kane Lim, and Gabriel Chiu will all be appearing in season 2. While the returning cast is eager to update everyone on their lives, the new members are looking to make their mark.
Despite being new to Bling Empire, this isn’t Dorothy Wang’s first reality TV rodeo. In 2014, Wang made her first splash in reality TV with E!’s Rich Kids of Beverly Hills. She also appeared in Famously Single & Fetch Me a Date in 2016 & 2019 respectively. Even though Wang is experienced in this field, her counterpart Mimi Morris isn’t so much.
Morris has never appeared on reality programming before, as she’s a businesswoman & philanthropist first & foremost. Interestingly enough, Morris is married to Morris Group International CEO Donald Morris. Dorothy Wang & Mimi Morris were probably brought on to replace Cherie Chan & Jessey Lee, who left after Bling Empire’s first season.
Cast spotlight: Kane Lim
Even though Bling Empire is set in the United States, the show has obvious international appeal. The show’s first season was one of the most popular streaming options in Singapore. Part of the reason for this is that cast member Kane Lim is originally from Singapore. Lim has established himself in the Southern California upper crust.
Lim’s posh lifestyle, social media activity, and powerful acquaintances have made him a successful entrepreneur in the Los Angeles real estate business. Kane is also well versed in fashion, so much so that other Bling Empire cast members come to him for advice on how to look their best.
In the first episode of the show, Lim helps Kevin Kreider pick out an outfit & also gives Christine Chiu pointers on what jewelry to wear. Not only is Kane Lim in touch with his sense of style, but also in his spirituality. Lim has been a practicing Buddhist for several years, saying that he switched to a vegetarian diet & stopped smoking.
Part of Lim’s success is surprisingly due to Rihanna, who followed the influencer on Instagram, resulting in many new followers after. Kane Lim is one of Bling Empire’s returning cast members who we’ll be tracking in season 2. It’ll be interesting to see how the old cast & the new cast get along in this hit Netflix reality series.
Season 2 of Bling Empire won’t premiere on Netflix until May 13th. Until then, you can stream the first season for free with a Netflix free trial, or other websites such as Putlocker or 123Movies. What do you think will happen in Bling Empire season 2? Let us know in the comments!
