Let’s face it, The Batman looks like the best rendition of the masked billionaire since Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight (sorry Ben Affleck). The new movie, helmed by director Matt Reeves and starring the ever-so-dashing Robert Pattinson, has us all waiting in dire anticipation. Will Reeves be able to bring back the dark & gothic aura of Gotham that made The Dark Knight trilogy so compelling?
Well, from the looks of the trailer, Reeves & Pattinson both contribute their fair share of broody realness. Evidently, you’re already convinced and ready to watch The Batman, but not so ready to head to the theaters. Be it saving money or avoiding COVID-19 risks, staying home to watch a movie always seems the superior option. That’s why we’re here to let you in on how to watch Matt Reeves’s The Batman online.
The Batman seeks to separate itself
After various incarnations of the vengeful vigilante, The Batman promises to set itself apart from the rest. Even the title itself suggests a return to the story’s core. After the franchise’s ups & downs, it’d be all too easy to reproduce a mediocre Bruce Wayne tale and rake in the cash. However, Matt Reeves decided to create a film that promised an entirely different take on one of DC’s most iconic characters.
Matt Reeves himself discussed his respect for the audience and how they’d quickly realize when a rendition was uncharismatically reproduced. The director told the New York Times, “If you can’t find the way to do it with a passionate connection then it’s not going to work, and the audience knows it.”
In that same interview, Reeves discussed his vision for The Batman. He imagined a Batman film that “was more about someone who hadn’t quite figured out why they were doing the thing they were doing.”
“I wanted to fight against any sense that Batman would remain static,” Reeves said. “I wanted the stakes of the story to challenge him in a way that shook him to his core. He has to change.”
How to watch The Batman online
At the moment, the only way to feast your eyes on The Batman is by heading to a movie theater near you. The film was officially released today on March 4th. However, if you don’t mind the wait, the new movie will be available to stream on HBO Max exactly forty-five days from now.
Although you can’t stream Matt Reeves’s The Batman right now on HBO Max, the wait isn’t actually too torturous. As of 2022, HBO Max will no longer stream theatrical movies while they are still in cinemas. Last year, we were blessed by Warner Bros.’s decision to simultaneously release new films in theaters and on streaming.
However, this year, all Warner Bros. movies will have a forty-five-day run in theaters only. Only after then will the new releases head to streaming. As a result, The Batman will be on HBO Max on April 19th, 2022.
After the movie’s theatrical run, The Batman will also be open to buy or rent on video platforms like Amazon Prime, iTunes, Vudu, Google Play, and more, in addition to streaming on HBO Max.
Currently, The Batman has an impressive 86% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes and 9.1 stars on IMDb. Although this will likely change as more viewers witness it, it’s now become one of the top-rated Batman movies.
