One of the most popular media player software and streaming media server VLC media player, developed by VideoLAN project, is no longer working in India. As per a report by MediaNama, VLC Media Player has been blocked in India nearly 2 months ago. Neither the company nor the Indian government has revealed any details about the ban.
There is bad news for those who use VLC Media Player. Actually, VLC Media Player, the most popular media player software and streaming media server developed by the VideoLAN Project, has been banned in India.
According to a report by MediaNama, VLC Media Player has been banned in India. It is being told that this happened about 2 months ago, but neither the company nor the Government of India has given any information about this ban.
Some reports suggest that VLC Media Player has been banned in the country, as the platform was used for cyber attacks by the China-backed hacking group Cicada.
A few months back, security experts are said to have discovered that Cicada was using the VLC media player to deploy malware loaders as part of its long-running cyber attack campaign.
Although this was a soft ban on the VLC media player, neither the company nor the Indian government officially announced a ban on the media platform.
Meanwhile, some Twitter users are still finding out the reasons for the ban imposed on this platform.
A Twitter user named Gagandeep Sapra also tweeted a screenshot of the VLC website, which shows that the website has been banned as per the order of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology under the IT Act 2000.
Let me tell you that at present the VLC media player website and download links are restricted in the country.
In simple words, this means that no one in the country can now access this platform for any work. That being said, VLC media player is banned on all major ISPs including ACTFibernet, Jio, Vodafone-idea, and others.
It is worth noting that in the year 2020, the Government of India banned hundreds of Chinese apps in the country, including many Chinese apps like PUBG Mobile, Tiktok, and Camscanner.
Actually, the Indian government feared that these Chinese apps were sending the data of Indian users to China, so these apps were banned.
